Forum Rules
- Everyone is encouraged to discuss applications, technologies, wish lists, problems, success stories, and things that your organization can offer. Commercialism is allowed where it is relevant to discussions. No infomercials please.
- If you are a consultant or someone with a product or service that needs to be discussed in a selling mode do so. If the list owner finds the posting pushy or you beat the drum too frequently, expect to be unsubscribed without warning.
- The list is intended to discuss maintenance issues - no off-topic requests or discussion, please.
- No personal attacks, offensive or abusive language is allowed. Offenders may be unsubscribed by the list owner without warning.
- No file attachments may be sent to the list, to avoid excessive use of bandwidth. The forum server is set up to reject large messages and file attachments.
- Only those who have subscribed to the list may receive e-mail messages and participate in the discussion - this is for your protection, and to limit the possibility of spam mail hitting the forum.
- Your privacy is paramount. In accordance with our privacy policy, we will not use your e-mail details or participation in the list for any purpose other than those necessary to achieve the aims and objectives of the forum, as listed above.
How Do I Participate (or Stop Participating)
The discussion forum works via e-mail, with all members who subscribe to the list receiving messages that are posted to the forum. Answers are provided to the entire forum by replying to the originating e-mail. The steps in asking a question of the forum are:
Step 1
Make sure you are subscribed to the forum. It is important that you are subscribed under the e-mail address from which you intend to send reply messages to the forum. The forum mail server is set up to reject messages from non-subscribers - this is to limit the amount of unwanted spam mail sent to the list - so if your reply-to address on your e-mail client does not match the e-mail address from which you are subscribed, any messages to the forum will be "bounced". If you have not already subscribed to the forum, or you wish to unsubscribe at any time, please fill in the form below.
If you are not subscribed to the forum, please complete the following form. You will be sent an email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. You must follow the instructions in that email in order to complete the subscription process and be able to post messages to the forum. If you do not receive this confirmation within an hour, please send an email to webmaster@plant-maintenance.com. This is a hidden list, which means that the list of members is available only to the list administrator.
A Handy Hint
|
|
The forum can generate a substantial volume of email - at present around 50 emails per week, and growing. This can be disconcerting for some folk, but we recommend that you take the following steps to make receiving and/or absorbing this quantity of email easier.
- Set up your email client to put all email from the forum in a separate folder. This can be done in most email clients using "Inbox rules" - for example in MS Outlook, go to Tools...Rules Wizard, and set up rules to automatically file all emails received from the forum in a separate folder. There are two rules that you can use - first, all messages from the forum will have the expression "[plantmaint]" in the Subject line, so you can use this as a filtering rule. Second, all messages from the forum will have a "Reply To" address of plantmaint@plant-maintenance.com.
- Get into the habit of speed browsing. Accept that you will not (and probably will not want to) read every message in detail. Use the subject heading as a guide to the messages that are likely to be of most interest to you, and read these in detail. Skim read or ignore the rest. After a while, you will also find that replies from certain individuals are likely to give more information, or be more interesting, so you may choose to read these in more detail also.
- Above all, relax, and enjoy the interaction with your peers.

Step 2
After you have received your confirmation email, and responded to the instructions in that email, you may post messages to the list. To post a message or question to all list members, please send an email to:
plantmaint@plant-maintenance.com. Please make the subject line relevant to the topic under discussion.
If you wish to view the collection of prior postings to the list, visit the plantmaint Discussion Forum Archives.
